You need a positive attitude first of all, and the necessary time to do some research in order to get auto insurance rates that are cheaper than what you are currently paying. Each driver has a different degree of driving experience meaning that each driver will have to take a different route to find a way to decrease the amount that he or she will pay for auto insurance. There are basically two groups of drivers involved, including teenage drivers (or anyone who is a new driver) and experienced drivers, when it comes to acquiring cheap auto insurance. There are some factors that apply to both groups, that need to become habitual so as to make the driver always qualified for low auto insurance.
The approach for the teenage driver
The attitude taken by the teenage or new driver should be to start their driving experience with an understanding that although driving can be fun and a method for feeling older or for temporarily escaping from home or school life, it is a privilege that has to be taken seriously. While getting car insurance at low rates may seem to many as being an almost impossible feat for any driver, parents need to assume responsibility and set ground rules regarding their teen’s driving patterns. One approach is to set up a kind of contract with clearly stated rules, which indicate what will be the expected behavior of the teen driver, and what will happen to the teen if he/she breaks any rule. Rules should be based on driving safely. For example, cell phones while driving should not be allowed, and the volume of the radio should also be set. Other rules might include when the teen will be allowed to use the vehicle, and the number of friends that can be in the vehicle at the same time when the teen is driving. Through the establishment of such rules that the parents expect to be fulfilled, parents can help their teen driver to learn how to act safely.
It is also important that when parents are discussing rules with their teens, they make it clear that the better their driving record is, the cheaper they will be to insure. When a teen driver begins their life as a driver, they have a clean slate, with no marks against them. The longer the period in which this record remains clear of accidents and driving citations, the better it will be for the driver in the coming years. It might be established by parents that if the teen has an accident or gets a ticket, the teen will have to pay for the increase in the auto insurance premium. Since it is already expensive to insure teenagers, adding a traffic incident to their record only increases the expense. It is important to stress the importance of keeping auto insurance premiums as low as possible in a way that the teen understands, making them possibly more sympathetic to the financial issues involved.
